Shamrock’n since 2012
I run because I love being outdoors and it’s more motivating for me to run outside than on a treadmill.
I started running because someone I dated did and I wanted to run with them. I hated it. They ran much faster and were super competitive, which I am not. I gave up and did not run for years. But about 10 or so years ago, I decided to try it again and I have not looked back. I find that when I get too competitive with it, I don't like it as much. I catch myself thinking I need to run faster or not run/walk and that’s when I get discouraged and want to stop.
I love to get people into running or walking and love it when they just take off with it. I don’t take it too seriously, so someone new running with me can set the pace and I not only push them to finish but push them to have fun and take it all in.
I loved the last Shamrock'n. I felt great during and after the run. It was the slowest pace I ran, but I loved it. I run because I can and so many people cannot—so I run for them.
My favorite aspect of the Shamrock’n is the route. I like that it’s partly on city roads, partly on the bike trail and ends at Raley Field. The course is full of things to see, music to keep you going and people cheering you on. It really comes into play when you are coming back over the Tower Bridge for the second time and you are ready to be done. I see all the people and know that I will be running on the field and it gets me going to the finish line.
I hope to see you at the 2016 Shamrock’n!
